From Interests to Inquiry

Dates & Times: Meetings will be held every 3 weeks, starting Thursday, February 12 @6:30pm, followed by March 5, March 26, April 16, May 7

We know how to use documentation to uncover children’s interests, but how do we take it to the next level by moving from interests to inquiry? How can documentation become a natural part of our pedagogical practice instead of feeling like it's just another thing we have to get done? Our time together will center around the process of documenting, which includes observation and interpretation, and how this process informs our thinking in our work with young children. We will also consider the ways in which we as observers impact the product of documentation, confronting the biases we bring to our interpretations. 

About the Facilitator:

Crystal Lucha is the Pedagogista/Atelierista at St. Michael’s Episcopal Day School in Austin, TX. She has been working in Reggio-inspired early childhood education for almost 20 years, beginning at San Diego State University’s Children’s Center when she was working towards her Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Innovative Early Childhood through the University of Colorado at Denver, in collaboration with Boulder Journey School. She attended the Reggio Children International Study Tour in Reggio Emilia, Italy in November 2024.
